Sukhothai Dawn of Happiness
I started my journey from the Rangsit station around 12
midnight. I planned to go by morning train and since it’s a long weekend I couldn’t
find a place in the express train. I
always recommend the express train because the rapid train is so slow L.

Plenty of legs space |
I reached Phitsanulok around 4.30am. Surprisingly, as
mentioned in the ticket. Then I have to take a motorbike for the Phitsanulok
bus station to catch a minibus to Sukhothai. At the Phitsanulok bus station you
can easily found the ticket counters and I think there are some brokers more
than happy assist you. Mini bus fare to Sukhothai is 50B and it’s a one hour
ride.

I made a big mistake here when the minivan arrived to Sukhothai
I get down from the van but in Sukhothai there are two towns old and new. Historical
Park is situated in old town. Better to ask driver whether the van is going to
old town. I get down at new town and I have to spend 150B to get back to old
town using a motorbike.

Entrance of the Old Town |
You can rent out cycles from near park entrance. Cost around
30B and they didn’t ask anything as a deposit. (Strange :P )

Then it’s all about your strength and stamina :P ride as much
as you can. I did about 40km ;)
My 40Km Bike ride you can see how bad I'm when it comes to map reading :P
There are a couple of ways you can go there from Bangkok,
- From Mochit 2 bus station you can take the bus
- From Hua lampong you can take the train use this link to find about trains
- From Sukhothai to new town you can take the very old mini Lorries 30B
- From New town to Phitsanulok take bus or mini van. This place is more confusing, so every time ask for someone is this van or bus going to Phitsanulok. I asked from the information counter in the bus stand and they said go and take a ticket from counter 1 but when I go there they said wait in the lane 5th or 6th and then you go there nothing is there. So better to ask every time you saw a van or bus :P ha-ha
- From Phitsanulok you can take a train or bus. There are also vans to Bangkok and cost around 280B. This option also fine and very fast.
Top tips for better exploration.....
- From Bangkok. Catch the morning train so you can reach there around 1pm or 3pm. If the sun is too extreme rest a little bit and reach the park around 4.00 PM then you can explore the park peacefully and I think park will be better with flash lights. Since you are going in the evening you can also explore the park under normal sunlight and flashlight.

What you can expect under lights |
- You need to go old town for that you can use a motorbike from the Sukhothai bus stand or old style mini Lorries. The cost will be 30B and it will take some time :P This is a ride to a historical park so the lorry also very old you will be amazed how this truck still in running condition.
- Park is divided into three sections and you need to buy tickets for each section. Cost is 100B and 10B for the bike. You can explore the park from walking but better to go with a bike. You will enjoy cycling around the ruins.
- Ride along the cycling track mention by the local authority if you like cycling and want to see more places.
- Have so chocolates along the way to boost your energy ;)
Enjoy ;) <3
